Growing up in Iran
I have been reading Marjane Satrapi's beautiful graphic novels,
Marjane was born in Iran in 1969 and lived there until the mid-1980s when her parents sent her to live in Austria.
Her books are great history lessons about Iran in the early 1980s as experienced by a young girl. She describes the revolution that led to the fall of the Shah, followed by another harsh political regime and the war between Iraq and Iran.
I am currently reading Persepolis 2, about her teenage years in Austria.
Marjane now lives in France and is a famous graphic novelist.
In 2006 Persepolis was made into an animated film, which was presented at the Cannes film festival in 07.
